Oak Ridge's softball team scored 11 runs on 15 hits, showcasing a strong offensive attack in Thursday's 11-1 win over Folsom.
The Bulldogs, working to improve their defense, committed four errors, three in the first inning, which put them in a 4-0 hole early from which they couldn't recover.
Oak Ridge's offense was dynamite, as they had 15 hits in the five-inning game. Cameron Kirtlan led the way with four hits in four at bats from her leadoff position in the batting order. Kirtlan also scored three runs and drove in another.
Kendall Kelly, hitting behind Kirtlan at the top of the order, had two hits, scored twice and also drove in two runs. Katelyn Castro also had two hits and drove in two runs.
Amber Orchard, Hannah Dardano and Nicole Eccles each had two hits with Orchard and Dardano driving in runs and each scoring once. Katina Vail singled, drove in a run and also scored two runs. Katie Schmitt, running twice for Eccles, also scored two runs.
Folsom had six hits in the game and scored its only run in the third inning. Leadoff hitter Jessilyn Barrow kick-started the inning with a triple in the right-center field gap and then scored on an Oak Ridge error.
The Bulldogs had a scoring opportunity slip through its hands the previous inning. In the second, Hailey Osborn and Hannah Cristo led off with singles and Miranda Sutter bunted them over to third and second, respectively. Oak Ridge pitcher Nicole Eccles, however, got Kelsie Bessel to ground out to first and then struck out Lizzy Lavagnino to end the inning.
Crystal Alvarez, Taylor Snyder and Bessel also had hits for the Bulldogs.
In the fourth inning, Barrow made a diving catch in left field for the Bulldogs, robbing Dardano of a base hit, while Teya Graves did the same for the Trojans in right field to rob Miranda Sutter of a hit.
The win improved Oak Ridge's record to 5-3 in the Sierra Foothill League and 8-10 overall, while Folsom fell to 2-6 in league and 3-9 overall.
